Hawaii Ocean Safety Team (HOST) was formed in 1998 as a non-profit organization whose vision is to promote stewardship of Hawaii’s waters and enhance ocean safety. HOST is comprised of representatives from business, government, and the community who are committed to identifying maritime concerns and developing solutions before they become major issues.
During 2004, HOST conducted six Membership Meetings that included such topics as the Marine Transportation System, Homeland Security, NOAA Weather Broadcasts, Marine Sanitation Issues, Marine Protected Areas and Whales vs Vessels. HOST participated in the 6th Annual National Harbor Safety Conference in Florida , the Hawaii Boat Show, and Get-the-drift-and-bag-it. HOST revised SOP 8-98 Explosive Handling and designed and distributed educational brochures on the use of PFDs and EPIRBS/VHF radios. HOST continued to utilize its extensive network to notify the members of various safety and security issues. HOST issued commendations to various companies and individuals that promoted maritime safety.

During 2004, the Board met on the following dates: January 8, February 12, March 11, April 15, May 13, June 17, July 8, August 12, September 9, October 14, November 18 and December 9. All Board meetings were held from 1500 to 1700 at the Hawaii Yacht Club.
During 2004, the Membership met on the following dates: February 19, April 22, June 24, August 26, October 21 and December 9. All membership meetings were held from 1400 to 1600 at the Marine Education Center with the exception of the December meeting, which was held at the Hawaii Yacht Club.
