Advisory Board Meeting Minutes
July 8, 2021, 2:00 pm
Waikiki Yacht Club & Zoom Virtual Meeting

  1. Call to Order 2:04 pm. Mac MacDonald, Gabe Nelson, Robin Bond, Mimi Cleary, Susan Yamamoto, Peter Pillone, Ed Enos, Mik Roer, Whit Olson, John Bravender, Bill Marhoffer, and LCDR Josh Williams were in attendance. Apologies for anyone left out- a complete attendance was not taken.
  • Treasurer’s Report:
    • No expenses to report.
  • Old Business:
    • “If Found” sticker update: Meeting with LCDR DelGaudio to request USCG backing/funding went well. The Coast Guard is interested in funding a trial run of stickers. Susan Yamamoto has created some high-quality options for the group to consider. These 4 designs were presented to the group. Gabe is talking with a sticker manufacturer about some of the details associated with printing.
    • State recognition. HOST officers and DOT-Harbors Division met to discuss this since last meeting. Dialogue is ongoing.
    • Honolulu Harbor Festival/Maritime Week 2022. This project has a long lead-time and is moving forward. Mac and Bill Anonsen are getting traction within the USCG Foundation for the event. The festival/week is currently penciled in for September of 2022.
  • New Business:
    • Approved SOP for Deconflicting the operations of the Piers 52/53 Crane Boom and Tall ships.
  • USCG Concerns:
    • LCDR Williams Reported that:
      • CDR Aja Kirksey is the new Sector Honolulu Deputy.
      • Port Allen dredging is completed, buoys to be re-established shortly.
      • Delay in Honolulu Harbor Dredging. Buoys 1 and 2 shifted 3 and 4 out of water, but electronic ATON has been energized and is visible by AIS.
      • We are currently in Hurricane Season.
    • Bill Marhoffer reported:
      • A successful lightering of ethylene from disabled vessel Navigator Neptune.
      • Boeing 737 crash offshore Ewa Beach.
      • The Oceania Regional Response Team will meet on September 8th from 1100-1300 HAST. Agenda to follow.
  • State of Hawaii Concerns (DOT Harbors & DLNR). Peter Pillone reported that:
    •  Anchorage Charlie remains out of operations due to anchor and chain fouling the bottom.
    • Honolulu Harbor maintenance dredging update: Some dredging happening – encountering debris by KCT area. Permitting issues for upland disposal. No entrance channel dredging currently scheduled.
    • Space issues continue due to KCT2 and Piers 19-20 substructure work.  
  • City and County Concerns (Ocean Safety Division):  None
  • Coast Guard Auxiliary/Power Squadron Concerns: None.
  • NOAA Concerns:
    • John Bravender asked for dissemination of NWS’s survey regarding changes to the phrasing of Advisories is plain language:
